This week we learned about a fantastic project called The Dictionary Project (www.thedictionaryproject.com) that provides dictionaries to third graders. There are several Rotary Clubs currently participating in the program in District 6990 (www.ri6990.org), we heard from Rotarian Elihu Phares a member of the Rotary Club of Fort Lauderdale Cypress Creek and also the district permanent fund chair for the Rotary Foundation. We learned about how easy for approximately $2 per dictionary we can make the difference in a child’s life. The statistics show that a child not connected to reading and education by 4th grade the lifelong literacy cycle is disrupted. By simply committing to one classroom at a time and then one school at a time a combined effort from organizations across the state are making an impact right here in Broward County.
